CULTURAL TOUR Friday 12 March 2010

Guest from around world joined a cultural tour organized by TITV, and supported by National Museum of Prehistory, Peinan Cultural Park, as well as Jinfeng Township Office. The group first visited Peinan Cultural Park, an archaeological site of the Puyuma history which could be traced back 2,300 to 5,300 years ago. The homes of the Puyum ancestors were positioned in the south-north direction pointing at Mt. Dulan. The stable settlement had enabled the people to develop craft skills. The cultural park was developed on the concept of turning the relics into a museum of the universe to co-exist with nature.

The group then visited the Sapulju village, an eastern Paiwan village surrounded on three sides by mountains with one side facing the Pacific Ocean. Sapulju (‘a lonely and barren place,’) is a sacred hunting area within the territory of Lupagatj in Taimali Township, which consists of four major communities and eight major Paiwan clans.

The group was later received by Kaqaluan village that suffered from a terrible disaster byTyphoon Morakot in 2009. The guests were overwhelmed by the scene of collapsed houses. Jingfeng Township delivered a presentation to the guests on the progress of the village’s reconstruction.

FAREWELL DINNER Friday 12 March 2010

A farewell dinner was hosted by the locals from the Katipul (‘getting together’) Village. Over a thousand years ago, the Puyuma ancestors landed at the place near the current Sanhe Village of Taimali Township. Some of them moved along the tributary to Katipul and settled down near the Jin-Lun River. Followed by a traditional prayer for all guests, the male guests were invited to the palakuwan, the Puyuma male assembly hall where the Puyuma juveniles and men received trainings on skills and community rules.
