Program Exchange SchemeIn 2009, WITBN launched a Program Exchange Scheme that Ireland’s TG4 later helped develop. The exchange pools together programming content and offers all contributing members access to quality indigenous broadcasts. It represents an innovative and cost effective way of securing new and attractive programming content at minimal cost. |
1. Balaich an Iasgaich
Duration: 60 minutes X 2 episodes Documentary films documenting the daily lifestyle and working practices of a selected group of inshore fishermen in the Western Isles, engaged in lobster, scallop, prawn and crab fishing. Observational documentary will reveal the hazards, bonuses and unpredictable nature of this career at sea, in a 21st century Gaelic-speaking island community.
2. Tatu Innse Gall
Duration: 60 minutes
The 78th Regiment of Fraser's Highlanders was raised in Scotland in 1757, specifically for service in North America. It played a daring and romantic role in the major battles of the Seven Years' War, a war which ultimately determined Canada's future. In
2009 over 250 years later the 78th Fraser Highlanders came to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis to headline a summer piping spectacular. On the 6th August 2009 a plane touched down in Stornoway with 60 members of this World class pipe band from Ontario. A number of band, including P/M Bill Livingstone have Lewis connections. The Fraser’s joined 6 other Scottish bands including bands from the Western Isles (Lewis & Uist) for a Tattoo on the Lews Castle Green on Saturday 7th August. 40 local highland dancers and solo pipers will also participate in the day. This docu-music programme is presented by piper Tormod Macarthur covers the 2 day visit of the 78’s – meeting and working with local players, searching their historical roots, and the fun and camaraderie of fringe events.
3. Fìrinn is Feise
Duration: 60 minutes This documentary looks at the conflict between spirituality and sexuality in Highland communities. We hear real stories from people who are followers of faith but whose sexual orientation is in direct conflict with the views of their church. This is a sensitive and awkward topic but it affects the lives of many families yet is rarely debated or tackled openly.
